Walking back from the beach I almost stepped on the tail of what must have been the fattest tiger snake I've ever encountered. I did not see the rest of it. I was kind of grateful. Just the sight of the thick fat grey-black tail tip disappearing quietly under a bush left me feeling queasy in the stomach and slightly edgy. And I've seen quite a few snakes.
