Relaxing on the Island 2006

Arriving early in July by ferry, Tania and I spent about three weeks on the island. Mostly swimming, surfing, wandering, eating, reading and sleeping. Exactly what we craved after too long at work back in Perth!

Starfish like this one are extremely abundant on the reef, perhaps one every square metre in some patches! [Photo: Tania]

Gathering agar-agar (local seaweed) on the reef. Selling agar-agar is the main source of income for a lot of the local people. The gelatinous algae wraps and grows around lengths of rope tied between wooden posts and held afloat using empty water bottles.
