Seeing Rabbits/ Which Came First the Chocolate or The Egg ?

Another Australian public holiday in the name of a tradition that means little to some and generally inspires a great mass outburst of consumerism !

This year I consumed one small chocolate egg which was a highly anti-climactic bit of compound chocolate with perhaps too much sugar and vegetable oil (possibly palm or canola oil) ...

Perhaps if it was a higher quality Easter egg I may have succumbed to the compulsive chocolate gluttony I remember so well from Easter as a child. Some others out there may remember it as just the other day, or may still be eyeing off a stash of chocolate eggs in the corner, perhaps guiltily stuffing the little choccy eggs into their mouths or more reflectively smoothing out the unwrapped colourful foil...

Writing this particular post makes me feel like a magazine or newsaper columnist, the type who writes what could be called coffee time spack filler, the inane outpourings of a journalistic hack that distracts many a reader from reflecting on deeper and more pressing issues. I'm sure something such as this has been writtten many times before...

My Easter compulsion was the creation of the little illustration you see above...

Jagged Steel

Shining steel fingers rise into the sky

Simple slender angular forms against deep blue and soft clouds

Like spirits rising up from all that is heavy or terrestrial

A release from the internal

Follow
ing the paths of shade skirting the towers that rise from the inner city sanctum

I pause for a moment to reflect on the shining forms above me

Across the street a small horde of photographers and journalists stands in a cluster on the steps of a court house hungrily waiting...

They seek words, images, pieces in a drama

I walk from time spent in the company of a confidante

And seek deliverance from such things

Momentarily observing this piece of urban theatre

A sobering metaphor for all the drama and conflict i created

Remembering now how much i hurt you

Barely grasping the fallout i have triggered

Hoping again for friendship

Sinking within

Questioning

Pondering absolution

Today now in this near cloudless dry sky

There is little that can obscure the emotions

Though from a certain viewpoint this is probably just a self indulgent cliché

Sculptural steel makes its jagged way into the sky

Ice fills a mould in stone

Carried through winter

Melting into Spring to join the stream

As the heat and light rises with the sun

Orange gold and deep red

Like blood

Tears

Water

No longer frozen emotions

Bali / Gunung Batur, 2009

A month in Indonesia for some tropical leisure
while Perth gets lashed by rain, wind & cold...

Fine warung dining as a rising tide & waves get ever closer... Medewi, western Bali

Near Pemuteran, north western Bali.

There were many trees like this in the surrounding fields.
I would love to see this hay baling process in action!
(Unless this is a natural form of growth... Not sure.
I only got so close - the cows most likely appreciated their space.)

Looking closely in the grainy sand on the beach, the sheer number of tiny hermit crabs was staggering. (Not unlike the number of star fish on the reef...)

Grave stones are also a popular place for people on Rote to sit and relax or just lay back,
which is a common sight as you travel across the island.
